About

Hello, I’m Andrew Chapman, creator of The Bookalyser. I am a book and magazine editor and typesetter based in the UK, and have more than 20 years’ experience. I am a Professional member of the Society for Editors and Proofreaders (SfEP), a Partner member of the Alliance of Independent Authors and a member of the Society of Authors.

I created The Bookalyser (or The Bookalyzer, if you’re in the US!) to help with my own editorial work – especially for identifying issues with texts that are hard for humans to sport – and decided to offer it to the wider publishing community. Over time I hope to add many more features – the paid-for version supports their development.

I work as a copy editor for publishers (such as Unbound) and individual authors (including self-publishers). And I’m available for hire.

Through my company, Prepare to Publish Ltd, I also work closely with a development editor, the novelist and creative writing expert C. M. Taylor.  He has written structural reports on more than 200 novels, and is Associate Lecturer at the Oxford International Centre for Publishing Studies. Between us we can take a fiction or non-fiction first draft all the way through to be ready for publication.

We also work with a fantastic bunch of more than a dozen freelance editors and typesetters. If you’re a publisher and want access to this group – who between them have worked for, among others, Penguin Random House, Orion, Ebury Press, Simon & Schuster, Thames & Hudson and Little, Brown – and the bespoke project management system we use to keep track of everything, please visit our main website and we can discuss your requirements.
